This project I recently came across is a 13 track album that released back in August, The East Oakland artist known as “Ovrkast” is not only a talented musician but also a producer who has production with some of the biggest names in the industry.
The lyrical artist has been releasing a substantial amount of music since 2020, with records that can be felt and are relatable to many across the country. With influences from artist like Knxwledge, Odd Future, and Capital Steez Ovrkast has been mentioned among some of the best rising stars the industry has to offer.
In 2020 Ovrkast released “Try Again” a 9 track album that received such good feedback he released a deluxe version in 2021 “Try Again” Deluxe. You can listen to both the original and deluxe version by clicking the cover arts below.
“I been informed not to break when enduring, but now I’m going distance.”
Try Again
“I don’t wanna talk just pay up”
Since the release of “Try Again” Deluxe Ovrkast has released numerous singles and a couple of EPs that really exploit his artistry. Two projects being “Reset” EP & “Kast got wings”. Both helping him gain traction for his most recent to date full-length project titled “While the iron is hot”. A couple records from the Reset Ep and kast got wings that stand out for me are “Shut Up”, “TBH”, “Reset” & “Beat it Up”.
The Reset EP puts me in a mind frame that’s pretty obvious, along any journey or during times when you are trying a accomplish a goal, life has a way of making you take a step back and reassess what’s going on. How far you have come and where exactly you want to go “RESET” which I for one know I have had to do numerous times just like you.
Jumping back to 2025 w/ “While the iron is hot” I think the best record off the project is titled “Dog Days” ft. Saba and Frsh Waters, which speaks about the struggles of a young man chasing dreams and navigating through the ups and downs of this roller coaster we call life. “On Time”, “Stumblin”, and “Strange Ways” produced by himself ft. Vince Staples are the most artistic records coming off this project in my opinion.
Moving forward I hope to see more collaborations from Ovrkast in the near future, I think artist such as Big Sean, Wale, J Cole amongst others who would mesh well with the production style he conveys on wax. As an artist I am interested in seeing the progression even more musically for Ovrkast. Down below you can stream both projects released prior to “While The Iron Is Hot” just by clicking the photo.
