edris elba plans to retire from acting and focus on directing!
If you are a major movie lover like me there is no way you cannot know who Edris Elba is, the British actor has been making some noise as of late with the news of the actor wanting to transition full time from acting over to directing and producing films. As most of us know Edris is a very talented actor who can hold his own amongst any top tier actor in the industry. With an extensive filmography Edris has been nominated four times for a Golden Globe Award for best Actor.
He is most commonly known for his role in the HBO tv series titled “The Wire” where he played a drug trafficker which was a major success, ironically Edris Elba has expressed that he does not want to play just gangster roles in his career, as well as playing slaves, he expressed that it’s just a principal of his, and I believe he has upheld that. The diversity the actor has shown during the course of his amazing career range from many different types of roles. Some of my personal favorite roles of his come in the movies “The reaping”, “Takers”, “Daddys Little Girls”, and from Tv shows “Luther” and “The Wire” all well worth the time spent watching on the tube.
Edris Elba is not just a successful actor he also is well known in the philanthropy space as well, the Golden Globe nominated actor says that there is a possibility he will go to school and just study, not political science, but human science in hopes to make him more effective in the philanthropy world.
Although we all love to see Edris Elba on the big screen, the actor has aspirations on becoming a director full time, the actor has made it known that he still loves acting but he feels moving into the director role can help him flex different skills he has in his repertoire. Edris also notes that he has a bigger mission at hand with how open Africa is, he plans on working with ministries and cultural agencies in Africa in hopes to build studios and schools or schools attached to studios.
Speaking of moving into the directing space more full time, Edris Elba has directed a new film which was filmed in Ghana titled “Dust to Dreams” starring the singer/song writer “Seal” who is well known for his songs titled “Kiss from A Rose” and “Fly Like an Eagle”. The film is set in Lagos, Nigeria with the plot of a relationship between a mother and her teenage daughter as she meets her father for the first time.
The actor also has a film that is being premiered at the “Red Sea international Film Festival” held in Jeddah the port city in western Suadi Arabia. The film is reimagined version of the play “This is ow it goes” where Edris Elba played the role of “Cody”. This time around Edris plays a new role in the film as well as directing it.
What a career this man has had thus far, with the future looking brighter as he broadens his horizons taking a leap of “faith” into this next chapter into his life, I’m anxious to view both of these films in the near future.
